If we consider that the overall improvement activities of a company represent its total creativity, then what is the process of continuous improvement, and how can we effectively involve everyone in this process? One basic concept is the cycle described in picture The steps are summarized as
follows:
- Study the current operation and standardize the work procedure.
- Find the problem areas.
- Solve the problems and develop improved methods.
- Implement the new methods.
- If the new methods are satisfactory, develop new work standards. Then go back to item 2 and continue the cycle.
As we find here, standardization and improvement are both critical elements for continuous improvement. Like two sides of a coin, both are needed to make continuous improvement possible.
