ABSTRACT
Indonesian is still attractive for the expansion of oil
palm plantation but highly suitable land is now limited.
Therefore, the
planters must consider the use of less favorable area which may involve a
number of constraints including low soil fertility and prolonged dry period. In
some places the lack of skilled labor for harvesting may occur. These problems
could be addressed by produced two types of new planting materials, namely high
mesocarp percentage and big bunches without additional input to that commonly
applied in the oil plam plantations. The big bunch progenies have the advantage
are now available which could be used to solve the problem assiciated with less
suitable area for oil palm investment in Indonesia.
